I figure this is a great place to open up some discussion on old super black eagles. I have several questions, an it appears this is where I may get some great answers!
1. What year did Benelli come out with the SBE?
2. How was Heckler and Koch involved with this gun?
3. Whats the difference between the H&K SBE's and the 'newer' SBE's?
4. What is a H&K SBE worth?
Let me know!!

SBE-1991,H&K was importing Benelli's from 1983-1997,located in Sterling VA.Newer SBE's have some
Camo options, cryogenic treated barrels, but the same recoil operated system. On some early SBE,you could get another shell into the action, even though you had a plug in the magazine and one in the chamber. You could pull back the bolt and it would allow you to drop another shell into the action, hence,
you would stack another shell, into the gun.Value in 98% condition-$825.00.They are still good guns,I
know, I owned one.

Benelli USA came into existence before the SBE II came out. I say that because it seems that some people think that all SBE's are H&K and will float a fourth shell. I bought my SBE new in 2001 and it won't float a fourth nor is it H&K. That was also the first year they came with a case.

Yes,that's right,the Benelli,that I had was an early H&K,Benelli,just over serial # 1000 and it would float
a shell.IMHO,you need to be careful on buying a Benelli,or Beretta,in wood,I had both wood crack on
these guns,I no longer will buy a hunting gun with wood,[it's polymer from now on] for me.I also know of other shooters, that have also had these problems with wood.

H&K was the importer and the early SBE's were marked Heckler & Koch Inc - Sterling Va on the right side of the reciever and Super Black Eagle on the left side. The base of the pistol grip had a round plastic insert with a black eagle head on it. I bought mine in '91 for $685. It had a polished blue/black barrel, black reciever and the wood had a clear coat high luster finish. Other than a few handling marks and minor dings, my stock is in fantastic condition and it has been used in the worst of weather conditions. The serial number is U0025XX. Without question the best shotgun I've ever owned and in my opinion the best semi-auto ever made. I still shoot mine today. I sent it to Benelli in 2009 with an extraction problem. Even though it wasn't under warranty and they had no serial # records of the H&K's imported they completely went through the gun..no cost to me.

My buddy bought one quite a few months after I did. By then, the only SBE's available were the satin finished low luster wood stocked guns. I don't believe the synthetic SBE guns were available yet. The first time he had it out in wet conditions the stock started to swell. H&K did replace the stock and the second one swelled as well. This problem was fairly common and became well known. I just don't believe Benelli did a great job 'weather sealing' those early stocks and no doubt I was very fortunate to get my gun with the better finished stock and brite blueing.
It wasn't very long after that Benelli USA was created(1998) and started importing the Benelli guns through Benelli USA. Beretta aquired Benelli in 2000.

Interesting about the swelled stocks, but it makes sense,it cost me about $138.00,for the SBE set up
and I didn't have to wait that long because,I have had the gun for about 1&1/2 years before the stock
cracked.I was at the patterning board and was trying out some 3=' shells at the time, and looked down at the gun and saw, about a 1/8' split starting to appear at the receiver where the gun mounts to the
stock.Replacing the wood with the polymer stock took care of that problem.I never had any known
problem using 2&3/4 ' shells.Beretta which owns Benelli, has had problems with wood also,it is a
fairly common problem,I recently bought a Beretta A400.Extreme Unico,Synthetic, and like the gun very much, but I also like my Vinci.

creeker , if I were to buy a gas op gun, it would be the B A400. A bit pricey but everything I've heard is nothing but good. Digests everything and is a soft shooter.
As for Benellis, I have owned quite a few and currently have the HK SBE, Vinci and a 20 Montefeltro. I sold a synthetic SBE and a 20ga Montefeltro during an extended jobless period in 2007.

hattles,I bought an A400 Extreme Unico,in april-2012 synthetic and am very well satisfied with it.I too
have had a lot of guns, mainly auto's,so I'm pickey on what I buy.The Extreme Unico's recoil, is about like shooting a 20 ga.It breaks down easy and will shoot any 24gr-64gr load, with no cycling problem.
It's like having a half Benelli and Beretta,in one gun.The bolt assembly is just like the Benelli, but there
is no spring inside of the bolt asembly.the recoil spring sits ahead of the bolt,so this gives more room
in the stock for the kickoff assembly.I bought a trigger shoe and bolt closure assembly from Angle Port and put that on the gun.The bolt closure works just super.I too, will keep guns for a while and then sell them off and get the new Teckno stuff,so far so good.

creeker, I doubt that I'll buy another semi auto but I like to wheel & deal when I get the bug for something. I may, someday, look for a 20 ga Legacy but that's not written in stone. I just traded my 20ga Benelli Monte and my Calif. compliant AR15 for a 20 ga. Sig/B Rizzini Aurora in excellant condition with 5 ext chokes. It was a fair trade dollar wise and it fills my need and the other guys needs. I get my 20 ga. skeet/upland gun and he get's his varmint rifle and still has a shotgun for his upland guiding business.
