All you need to do is: add the fonts that you want to Ubuntu, and then you can use them in Gimp. Download the font(s) that you like, and once downloaded, you can double click on the font file, and that will open Font Viewer, just click on install, and you're done. Installing fonts in GIMP is, thankfully, a very simple process – especially if you are using a Windows machine. However, if you still aren’t quite sure how to do it – or don’t want to risk screwing anything up when trying to install custom or third-party fonts – fret not!
You can use the open-source GIMP, also known as the GNU Image Manipulation Program, in your business to create and edit images without any additional costs. The program is free to install and use, but although it comes with a comprehensive set of tools, it doesn't offer a selection fonts. In fact, GIMP uses the fonts that are installed on your computer. There are two ways to put a new font on GIMP; both are relatively straightforward.
Finding and Installing Fonts on Your Computer
Before you can put fonts on GIMP, you need to find and install them. Fortunately, there are hundreds of websites that offer stylish fonts for free (see Resources for examples). Search for fonts and download them to a folder on your computer. The file extension must be '.ttf'. If the fonts are archived, extract them in a folder on your machine using WinRAR or any other free archiving utility. Instead of installing each font after you download it, make a collection of fonts and install them all at once.
Installation to GIMP
You can put new fonts on GIMP without installing them in Windows. First, open the GIMP directory, usually located in C:Program Files. Next, open the etcfonts folder and open the fonts.conf file in Notepad. Locate the line and insert the path to the folder where you saved the fonts earlier (for example, path/to/Fonts/folder). Press 'Ctrl-S' to save the changes and close the file. GIMP looks for and loads fonts in that folder.
Installation to Windows Fonts
GIMP is set by default to look for fonts in the default Windows Fonts folder, so if you install the fonts correctly, the software will be able to find and load them automatically. To install the fonts, open the folder where you stored them, press 'Ctrl-A' to select all fonts, right-click one of them and select 'Install' from the context menu. The fonts are installed in the default Fonts folder, so that GIMP can easily find and load them. Note that, if you use this method, the new fonts will be placed in the same folder with the default Windows fonts and it might be difficult for you to find specific fonts.
Testing Fonts
After you install the fonts or point GIMP to their folder, you must test to see if GIMP actually loads them. Launch GIMP on your business computer and create or open an image. Select the 'Text Tool' from the Toolbox at the right and click the 'Aa' icon next to Font (in the Text area of the Toolbox) to see all fonts loaded by GIMP. Scroll up and down to find the fonts you are looking for. The fonts are loaded and can be used in your images.
