Armstrong sterling silver model 90 flute, made in Elkhart, Indiana. This flute has a sterling silver body and head, with closed holes and C-Foot joint. It is serial number X-6867, made between 1965 and 1972. I am a parent trying to buy a used flute and I'd like to go with an Armstrong. The issue I'm having is trying to figure out manufacture dates based on the Conn-Selmer serial number formula (prefix number plus 50). Anne McGinty was hired by the Armstrong Flute Company in the late 1970s to run their publishing division after the company aquired Hansen as their distributor. Anne later moved to Florida and worked with the iconic publisher, Mr. Charlie Hansen, who was the founder of the company. On that model flute, the body tube and the head tube is sterling. The keys, rib plate,posts, barrel, rings, keys and other parts are either brass or nickel with silver plating over the entire flute, as Bruce said.
